Canard Orchards. Here, Gerry van Oostrum talks about the transition from seedling rootstocks in 1966 when his father Peter van Oostrum purchased the orchard. Now son Gerry farms 55 acres of apples with Peter consulting. In the back is a Gala orchard started in 1995 on M.9 and M.26 rootstocks. Tree spacing is 2.5 to 5 feet between trees. In it's 5th and 6th leaf, the productive orchard produced 54 bins/acre and 63 bins respectively.
