Schedule and Registration Form for the
1998 NE-183 meetings
We are looking forward to your visit to Corvallis, OR for the
annual NE-183 meeting. The general itinerary for the meeting
follows:
Saturday, 14 November
- Arrive from Portland, OR. (Shuttle service available, see
below)
- 7 pm Welcoming reception at the Ramada Inn
Sunday, 15 November
- Breakfast and lunch on own (For those interested in attending
religious services on Sunday morning and would like more
information, contact me, Anita.)
- 1-5 pm Tour the Lewis-Brown farm (NE-183 planting, NC-140
plum, apple and cherry plantings; view and taste apples) and USDA
Germplasm repository. (Vans will pick up participants from the
Ramada Inn.)
- Dinner on own (Transportation provided)
Monday, 16 November
- Breakfast on own
- 8 am Pick up at the Ramada Inn
- 8:30- noon NE-183 meeting at the CH2M Alumni Center, OSU
campus
- Lunch Alumni Center
- 1 - 6 pm NE-183 meeting. Will transport participants back to
the Ramada Inn.
- 7 pm Group dinner at the Ramada Inn
Tuesday, 17 November
- Breakfast on own
- 7:30 am Pick-up at the Ramada Inn for the tour
- 9:00-noon Meadowlake Nursery
- noon-1:00 box lunch
- 1:30-4:00 pm Treco Nursery
- 5:30 pm Drop-off departing participants at the Shilo Inn,
Portland airport
- 6 pm Pick-up NC-140 participants at the Portland airport
- 7:30 pm Arrive in Hood River, lodging at the Hood River
Inn
- Dinner on own
The registration fee of $65.00 for the NE-183 meeting
includes:
- A welcoming reception on 14 November, Saturday evening,
- Transportation from the hotel for the tour of the Lewis Brown
farm/ USDA Germplasm Repository on 15 November, Sunday,
- Room rental for meeting,
- Coffee, tea, snacks on the morning of the 16 November;
- Transportation from and back to the hotel on 16 November,
- The group dinner at the Ramada Inn on 16 November
- Transportation for the tour on 17 November with a box lunch,
and
- Transportation back to the Portland airport after the
tour.
Additional relevant information:
Shuttle from the Portland airport
- Participants are required to make their own reservations for
the shuttle service from Portland to Corvallis (Anthony's
Limousine Service (541-752-7831) The cost is $35.00 one way and
$60.00 for round trip. The service departs Portland airport at 7
am and leaves every two hours until 11 pm. The drop off in
Corvallis is at the Ramada Inn. We encourage you to make
reservations at least one week before your departure.
Hotel accommodations
- To make reservations for the Ramada Inn, call 541-753-9151.
Rooms have been blocked at the hotel under the name Horticulture
NE-183/NC-140. To be guaranteed a room, you should book your
reservation by 27 October. After this date room reservations will
be based on availability. There is big athletic event in town that
week so it will be difficult to make reservations elsewhere. The
cost will be $65.00/single and $75.00/double.
- If you are planning on staying at the Shilo Inn the night of
17 November near the Portland airport, call the Shilo Inn
(503-252-7500) to make your own reservations. Rooms are also being
held until 27 October under NE-183/NC-140. Again, after this date
reservations will be based on availability.
Meals
- On the night of the 14 November, we will have a welcoming
reception with Hors d' Ouvres at the Ramada Inn. The group dinner
will also be held at the Ramada Inn on 16 November. We plan on
having smoked salmon and chicken. Please complete the section at
the bottom of the registration form if you have dietary
restrictions. The remaining meals are on your own with the
exception of lunch on 16 November and the box lunch on 17 November
for the tour.
- In summary, with respect to the meals, the registration fee
includes coffee, tea, water, a snack, the cost of lunch on the 16
November, the group dinner and the box lunch on the 17th (tour of
the nurseries).
Transportation while in Corvallis and to the airport
- We will pick up NE-183 participants at 1:00 pm at the Ramada
Inn on Sunday the 15 November for the tour of the research plots
and the USDA Germplasm repository, and return you to the hotel.
The following morning (16 November), you will be picked up at 8:00
am and driven to the CH2M Alumni center, on the OSU campus, where
the meeting will be held, then returned to the hotel at the
closure of the meeting. The next day, we will depart the hotel for
the tour of the nurseries. After the tour, we will drop NE-183
participants off at the Shilo Inn near the Portland airport so as
to facilitate your departure on the 18 November.
- Those continuing on to the NC-140 meeting, will be transported
there after we have dropped the departing participants off at the
Shilo Inn.
