From langg at msu.edu Fri Jun 8 11:33:38 2018 From: langg at msu.edu (Gregory Lang) Date: Fri, 8 Jun 2018 11:33:38 -0400 Subject: [Nc140] Save the Date - Flore/Perry Retirement Symposium Message-ID: Dear NC140 Colleagues, We invite you to consider spending the weekend before Labor Day in the beautiful Grand Traverse Bay area, and taking that Friday (24 August) to participate in a one-day symposium titled "Forty Years Advancing Fruit Production: Applied Physiology, PGRs, Rootstocks, and Orchard Systems", that will honor the retirements of Professors Jim Flore and Ron Perry! Attached is the symposium program outline - the goal of the symposium is to provide an informative day of current fruit science with more than 20 presentations that will stimulate new research ideas among the scientists in attendance and new orchard practices for the extension educators and fruit growers in attendance. This will be an excellent opportunity to interact with the many former students, visiting scientists, and academic colleagues who have worked with Jim and/or Ron over the years to advance the production of cherries, apples, peaches, and grapes. The Hagerty Conference Center on the shores of Grand Traverse Bay provides a relaxed and beautiful setting to share visions of future fruit research challenges and production technologies as well as how collaborations with Jim and Ron over the years have influenced careers and orchard/vineyard practices Following the symposium, there will be a reception/social hour, followed by a gala dinner during which others will have a chance to briefly share experiences and appreciations with Jim and Ron. All in all, we think it will be an excellent way to finish the summer among many friends and colleagues in a renowned location, and we fervently hope that your busy schedule will allow you to join us! Please let us know if you have any questions, and if you can consider participating as a presenter or as an attendee, let us know and we?ll keep you appraised of suggested travel arrangements, registration details, lodging options, etc..
