To any RIMpro uses in the Hudson Valley or southern Connecticut who have been following posts on my blog, here is an update that I won’t bother posting to the blog since my post last night still suggested caution in assessing the upcoming infection period.
Last night both of the weather services that I am using to run RIMpro were converging toward a prediction of limited wetting for the rains that will start tonight, and those predictions resulted in RIMpro outputs for my location (using a 12 March biofix and a 16 March date for green-tip) that suggested the coming infection period would not be very significant (RIM values near or below 300). Overnight, the forecasts both changed and now the Highland Station run with MeteoBlue weather data is suggesting we will have an infection event with a RIM value of nearly 700 and the Highland Station run with NEWA and yr.no forecasts is suggesting a RIM value of about 475. Thus, both stations are now suggesting a significant infection event.
I know that some folks in the area have not yet applied a fungicude and have decided to wait until after this weekend to begin their spray program. It should be interesting to see how things shake out. I suspect that those with clean orchards will still be OK ignoring this event, but the latest forecasts have certainly changed the odds on whether or not that will be the case.
